Industrial Labor Issues
Labor issues are key factors impacting upon the economic and social makeup of the world, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. A combination of the world's largest population, rapid industrial development and competitive commercial pressures have set considerable challenges to the region's government, corporations and other organisations. Whilst no business wants to deliberately exploit labor resources, it can be difficult to secure competent labor with adequate skills, or provide training and work conditions that also meet constant cost pressures that dominate the daily industrial environment.
SIRA works with Asia-Pacific industry, government and other organisations in collecting data, undertaking first stage analysis and providing advice in realistic solution options. In most instances there is no data available to determine the real status of the situation. SIRA is at the forefront of regional data surveys and compilation. Often we are the sole provider to governments and industry of such hard to get information at the industry sector level.
Examples of SIRA's work in the Asia-Pacific region include:
- Regular labor surveys of specific industrial sectors, such as plastics, chemicals and rubber industries
- Development of industrial occupational health and safety programs for small to medium scale businesses - especially new joint ventures in Asia
- Provision of training in our core competence areas - product marketing/distribution and cost minimisaton
- Derivation of skills profiles across regional industries
- Comparative labor cost analysis between differing target locations in the Asia-Pacific
- Evaluation of regional government labor policies and effective implementation
- Independent investigation, strategic analysis and accrediation rating of sub-contracting factory labor conditions performance
- Evaluation and strategic advice on labor disputation and conflict resolution
- Financial viability studies and business plans inluding labor considerations
